Holding Wellness & Growth in Harmony
Holding Wellness & Growth in Harmony
I’m a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience helping adults in both the NHS and private sector. Trained and accredited in several evidence-based approaches, my goal is to help you move from distress towards living the life you want.
The ethos of my practice is in the name:
Therapy with me is about more than symptom reduction. It’s about emotional healing, clarifying your values, and taking practical steps towards meaningful change.
Growth is about more than a reflective space to explore your own solutions. It’s an active, collaborative process where we identify your ambitions, work through barriers, and develop practical strategies to help you flourish.
Sustaining your balance between “Amwell” and “Spring” can be challenging. Perfectionism, burnout, procrastination, and self-doubt can all pull you back. I can help you move forward in a way that is both meaningful and sustainable.
Dr Omar Cummins, CPsychol
HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist, Accredited EMDR and CBT Therapist.
I work with adults who want to move from distress to stability, and from stability to a life that feels rich, meaningful, and aligned with their values. Some people come to me when they feel overwhelmed, stuck or unsure of their next step. Others are seeking clarity, confidence, and personal or professional growth.
I have experience helping with:
I work affirmatively with people from all backgrounds, including those who have experienced trauma. My approach is respectful, collaborative, and sensitive to how identity and lived experience shape both challenges and growth.
Helps identify and change deep-seated patterns or “schemas” that often begin in childhood. This evidence-based approach fosters lasting emotional change by combining experiential techniques with a parts-based understanding of the mind.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy is a powerful, evidence-based therapy for processing traumatic or distressing experiences. Effective for PTSD, complex trauma, and anxiety-related difficulties. It can also be used in coaching contexts to help clients move beyond recovery into growth.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a structured, goal-oriented approach that helps you identify and change unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour. Widely used for anxiety, depression, OCD, and other difficulties.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy is based on psychological flexibility. This approach teaches you to relate to difficult thoughts and feelings more effectively, while taking practical steps towards a life guided by your values.
Compassion-focused Therapy is particularly helpful for those who are highly self-critical or struggle with shame. It builds self-compassion and resilience, making it easier to manage challenges effectively.
My work draws on elements from multiple approaches to create a unique, tailored process that supports your needs and goals.
I am a highly qualified Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience, holding advanced training in multiple evidence-based therapies. I hold additional accreditations in EMDR and CBT. My practice meets the highest standards of professional training, ethics and ongoing supervision.
I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from University College London in 2007. Clinical Psychologist is a legally protected title. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the UK’s regulatory body for clinical psychologists (Registration No. PYL04530). I am also a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
Awarded by the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London (2010), my training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) was complemented by specialist supervision in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I am fully accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies as a CBT therapist (Membership No. 16308).
I have completed all three levels of EMDR training, alongside the required supervision and assessment for full EMDR UK accreditation (Registration No. 174734). EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based approach for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety-related difficulties, and I also apply it in coaching contexts to help clients grow beyond recovery.
Awarded in 2021. This advanced training enhanced my expertise in understanding and working with the relationship between brain function and psychological wellbeing.
Completed prior to my doctoral training, this MSc strengthened my research skills and evidence-based approach to practice.
I studied Experimental Psychology at Wadham College, Oxford, graduating in 2000, and have worked in mental health since.
In addition to therapy, I offer psychological assessments and reports for Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) cases.
Fees for these services are agreed on an individual basis, depending on the scope of work required.
Payments are made by bank transfer or via your insurance provider.
I offer in-person sessions in Harpenden at the Southdown Clinic, a comfortable, private, and conveniently located space with free parking nearby. I can also see clients in central St. Albans. Some clients prefer “walk and talk” sessions, and I’m happy that we make use of the beautiful green spaces around Harpenden and St. Albans.
See me from anywhere in the world, without the commute, from the comfort of your own home. Secure online sessions are provided via Zoom, enabling us to see each other and share materials. Telephone sessions are also available. For online EMDR, I use a platform called Bilateral Base, which works very well.
